M-Care Optima @ Rustenvrede is situated on the Helshoogte Road, nestled against mountains in the beautiful Banhoek Valley next to the Hillcrest Berry Farm outside Stellenbosch and licensed as an acute private hospital to admit voluntary psychiatric patients.

Location
Helshoogte (R310) Banhoek Valley, Kylemore, Stellenbosch.  The hospital is situated next to the Hillcrest Berry Farm near an abundance of wine farms, restaurants and guesthouses for families and other visitors, as well as a convenient shopping centre nearby.

Facilities
Patients are admitted into comfortable and beautifully decorated semi-private en-suite patient rooms, equipped with DSTV, WiFi and air-conditioning.  The hospital comprises of adolescent and child units and is one of the first in-patient settings in South Africa where children under the age of eleven years with emotional problems can be admitted with a parent, for a therapeutic programme.

There are also a number of one-on-one therapy rooms, group therapy rooms, gym, lounges and beautiful spacious gardens has been developed for the use of patients and their families which is also used for different group therapy programmes. This tranquil environment offers the ideal setting for helping patients to cope with difficult times in their lives, relax, and to socialise.

​Patients are in the care of a multi-disciplinary team comprising psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and occupational therapists. The clinic was built especially for its purpose and care has been taken in the ward layout, furnishing and creation of specialised therapeutic spaces in order to create the most conducive environment possible.  We treat a broad spectrum of mental health issues, developmental disorders and crisis situations, assist in diagnosis, and advise on treatment plan going forward. Patients typically stay for a two-week period but this could be shorter or longer, depending on need and medical aid benefits.
